South Florida’s Best-Kept Boating Destination Secrets
Published December 12th, 2015
The local beach is only one of the many destinations along South Florida’s sandy coast. If you have a boat, you can explore the coastline outside the city and discover some secret spots that are even more fun when accessed by boat. Here are just a few to start:
1. Biscayne Bay
2. John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
3. Crandon Park
4. Bahia Honda State Park
5. Matheson Hammock Park
Biscayne Bay
This lagoon 20 miles south of the city is a national park where you can explore untouched natural areas and colorful coral reefs.

The only underwater national park in the United States, this offers a unique experience for boaters. Put on your scuba or snorkel gear and explore under the water or just relax in a hammock on the shore.
Crandon Park
There’s a lot to do here even though it’s not part of busy South Beach. Located in Key Biscayne, Crandon Park features a calm ocean, an outdoor skating rink and a merry-go-round.

If quiet and solitude is what you’re looking for, head your vessel toward this state park in the lower Florida Keys. Although it is accessible by car along the Overseas Highway, it’s much more fun to head out over the rolling waves to get here.

You can really get away from civilization at this quiet area that’s heaven for boaters. Take a dip in the shallow saltwater lagoon or enjoy some seafood at the Red Fish Grill before you head home.
